O.K. I'm sure you all know what laser tag is, but in case you don't... it's a game in which players get IR blasters of some kind and have to shoot the other players, either in a vest or at sensors in their gun.
What does this game need? Variation! There are some people that produce multiple types of guns and crud, but yeesh... it's still the same thing then, only with different firing capabilities. I'm talking different types of weapons altogether.
Anyone remember those HP wands that came out just before the first movie? The ones with the stars that had the pattern game thingy? How many of you knew that you could duel with other wand holders with those? They use the same signals (Even though their sensors are pathetic). So... you can harm laser tag players with magic! Mwuahahaha!
(note that I'm going to mainly be talking about the cheap vest and blaster set)
I'm not sure if there is a way to use the wands to activate the recharge mechanism, but when I find the spell you'll be... the second to know!
At any rate, I started wondering just what I had that could be used as a weapon against a laser tag warrior. So, like two, three... maybe four years ago, I tried a VCR remote... spent an hour or so sitting over a vest trying to change the chanel. The results, I am afraid, were poor; the buttons never cause the same thing twice.
I also tired a training light saber (Found with grimlin's talking Yoda!). I found that while it doesn't cause damage, it does mess with the radar. That got me thinking... "I neeed a light saber that you can fight with!"
So, that made me wonder how to use mailay weapons with a laser tag vest. You couldn't very well make a constant signal; you could stab people by pointing at them! So, I was thinking that maybe it could use cheap sonar thingies and only project when things are in range. Of course that'd require several sensors/projectors to make reasonable execution, but we're just working with the basics here! You could do the same things with gloves at a shorter range, but that just doesn't seem to go with the game...
And then there are explosives! Somebody's already done mines for laser tag, but still... I thought I'd mention them since what I read about the claymore wasn't all that thrilling. you'd just need a timer or some other trigger and send waves out in all directions (Or if it's activated by motion or something like that, in the direction of motion). Simple! (Much simpler than mailay, nee?)
Then there are projectiles, which pretty much vacate the whole purpose of the IR system. I also thought of nunchakus, but that'd pretty much fall into the projectile category as far as compatability goes.
So... now that I'm done with that little ramble...
any ideas? It is supposed to be cool after all. Or fun at least. Leave the trig involved for later... then I'll have something to do when I get bored.
