I'm really good at starting things... but going no where, as anyone that's been keeping up with the site for the past three years knows by now. I'd say at the rate I'm going now, I'd have... a demo of an EC game up by the end of the summer (GAH!), but it could pick up ... really what bugs me is putting in all the code for the graphics, I suppose. I'm going to haev to make a graphics program... it'll make it so much easier to complete things, which means less boredom for the universe... I've tried time and again to get a Jeqo RPG off the ground. Sometimes I've been thwarted by horrible design, and once by "wow, I actually got a lot of stuff done... but the computer ate it!". Naturally that's unpleasant. So like, shortly after the semester ended I randomly set up a new system on this computer just to do something, and I don't see it going anywhere... but yeah, maybe... but the awesome has been compromised. And then there's DLE. Another textgame with way too many alerts. But it's cool enough that when I get around to finishing the unnecessary cool elements I added because I had something to add them to, I'll probably put it up. A 3d version that isn't text based would be the awesome... but is unlikely to exist any time soon. Awwe. . So, bleh! To the Jeqo RPG! ... And I locked the other thread... so it goes here now. I'm going to limit the technobabble, because it's annoying to go back and read. Umm, yeah. So, what do we want? I think we can leave it at that and actually take the thread somewhere.

Well, games of this sort come with the same dangers games based off of TV shows or movies goes (which, I must add, I really don't like the latter). To be good, they have to have interesting gameplay mechanics and stay true to the established story. To be great, they have to add something to the established story while maintaining requirements for the 'good' category.
Now, as far as an EC game goes, I think sidestories could be very dangerous, unless they were set up as flashbacks of some sort. And even that had some issues. EC is just very linear (which for EC, really works), and is in constant motion at that. Throwing in random fights/sidequests could just bog things down.
PS has lots of room for sidequests, and in fact, nearly demands them. The little I have read of TAOE seems to agree with that as well.

Yeah, EC+sidestuff = bleh. PS=the sidequest champion... Heh, and I've only come up with like three for the psrpg? Well, no... Umm... I don't know! I need to work on that... maybe tonight. ^^. And there's the PSTAG... but I will say no more at the moment. . Taoe strikes me as going in multiple directions game-wise... which would probably wind up pretty dangerous and odd if not controlled... Hmm... Then of course there's LC, which is probably seeing an RPG before I rewrite the story itself... although I don't like when I lose maps. . So much stuff to do... XD XD XD. ... *Needs to resurrect SD and Hetra* and then the Jeqo power will be ... umm... over Nine Thousaaaand! Yeah. Umm. How's a PS Collection sound? Like, there's too much that could be done with it, so why not do several (not all at once, as that'd be compromising quality...) and put them together jampack style... or something. And... ... ... ... I might consider looking for the shreds of LC that are online now...

I think I might read a bit or two out of PS for a devotion at camp some day... heh heh. Royce strikes me as a great role model for responsibility.
That was way off topic...
Sounds like little brother and I might attempt to make a game this summer!
TC... very linear, but it holds lots of chances for flash-back style side quests. So many missions before that could probably tie in to the main story and such... Guardian Gwynevere could be a hidden character of some sort. Gera and Plair in a TC fighting game would be much unfair. And Lakrin even more so, if I can figure out how to make the final fight cool.
An EC fighting game with an 'adventure mode' much like a beefed up DLE would be really awesome.
*can't remember much from the small glance that was taken at LC*
A PS Collection... it would depend on how it was done, really. Each piece would have to be top-notch in order to make the whole thing good overall though.

I think I might read a bit or two out of PS for a devotion at camp some day... heh heh. Royce strikes me as a great role model for responsibility. ... Meep! The Awesomeness keeps rolling in... ! Heh heh... That could go several ways... Mwuahahaha! I was going to try to make such a thing like, earlier this month... I'm not so sure it'd work the way it's currently set up though, and I think I wound up trying to apply it to the Jeqo RPG and it collapsed really quickly. I think I'll find a way to revive it... although it'd probably be either very 3d, or very gameboard-ish, neither of which seem to work all that well... ... Good. . Egh... how much of the stuff I made for an LC RPG still exists? *grumbles about mapmaker eating things*. Bleh, it's not exceptionally good as it stands, but is rather important... so I guess to the notes machine... Yeah. I was thinking something like the RP/adventureish game off of which the TAG is based (though it'd wind up being based on the TAG with all that got added... Yay!), an RPG that would be a higher quality version of the one that I need to continue. probably the sidescroller for which I have notes but probably won't ever attempt... and anything else that comes about. But yeah, each would have to be maxed out on its own to avoid exploding into bugblood... And wegh, I spent this morning using the GU sound test to ... do... stuff. And have more ideas on how to move things with certain people... Guh, that game needs to exist, too! And SD will have to wait for java3d and me to figure out how I can make it in such a way that I could actually play it. . Ur... and for me to revise the writing... ^^.

Revising writing... we both seem to be trapped there right now, don't we? Perhaps that is a testament to how we've grown as authors though.

Not trapped so much as... in a confusing predicament in the area of focus.

Maybe I need to be attacked by Karzedna again to get in the writing spirit. I seem to do well with writing when he's scratching at my dreams. Guh, but that has negative aspects too.

In a twisted sort of way that sounds like using demonic influences to get better at writing. ^^. We can agree that isn't fun! I think it just helps to be excited about what you're doing. Forcing it should only happen to push to something necessary... So... umm... yeah. Thinking without taking notes is very helpful... then take notes once you've thought enough to remember everything. Then go.

I think I'm going to make a graphics+sound-ish Jeqo RPG. In theory that'd put us at Version 4 or 5... but I'm going to make it 3.141592 instead. . So yeah... I forgot about a little thing called 1st person view, which would make rendering a 3d game a lot easier. And if I make it turn-based, less animation would be required. Granted, it'd still be pushing it having to draw the scene every time you move. Which brings me to another question: what sort of motion/view system should be used? In theory the whole move your head to see everything trick should be available, although it'd be difficult to pull off. I could make linear motion (the directional buttons always move you in that direction), or rotation-esque (forward+back, and l/r change the direction you're facing), or somehow combine the two. The thing that worries me about that is... if I allow for rotation (which I should in some sense even if just for looking around), I'd probably need to make the scene scrollable... which would be not only a challenge to draw, but would take longer because of all of the off screen stuff. Or I could draw anew for each angle--slow, but spread out. *sigh*. I don't know, but for such a game being able to look around is almost necessary. I like linear directionness, but it is problematic in some sitaations where being able to move say, backward without turning around or crabstep or whatever is useful if not necessary (fights, anyone?). I'm using the numpad system that allows for like 100 possible commands on keyboards wqith the stupid "2keys at a time" restriction... I'd imagine that should allow for some sort of modifiers and junk... but I'm still confused as to how to handle nav-ness. Meep, otherwise... it's just a matter of actually getting it done. I'd like to find a way to integrate less text and more audio into it as well... but that's less compatable cross browser, and important enough to include an alt form of anyway... Subtitles! . Oooh, how about a post of key combinations... and non-spoiler things can be added to it. And... all contributors naturally appear in the credits. ^^. (Putting it in another thread so this one doesn't wind up going too many directions.)

My goodness, I don't even know where to begin with this.
Ok... erm... yes, rotation would be just about necessary in a good 3D game. First person view can be great, but in some situations can have many drawbacks too.

... Eraser demon, go to hell. Seriously. Meh, what I had wasn't important enough to retype. -.-. First person sucks in a lot of a lot of instances ... it really seems good for shooters, and maybe a few other target-esque genres, but for anything that I play, no. But for the game in question, I think it makes a good deal of sense. Umm... .... yeah. I want to be able to zoom in and out without redrawing things. . *makes note that the pictures must therefore be as plain and rectangular as possible in most instances where moving wouldn't be slow anyway*. Or... pictures? Hmm.

That sounds like, Spanish for ghost or something... ... meah, now I'm interested! And for the record... Spectro's moves are probably the hardest to fit into a special moves engine that tries to put as much into standards as possible.

Well, not just that... Holograms based on what's already on screen, anyone? ... Though, a lot of things in the movelist look redundant... Like... I dont' know, throws and stuff... Guh, typoes suck.
