I am quite pleased, I just thought up this game on Saturday/Friday night, started the PC version last night, and did most of the work today, and I have a working (all be it still needing some stuff) verison that I absolutely love despite its lack of sound and the inability to tell where you are as compared to your enemy. Nonetheless, I feel like describing it in the manner of a magazine summary! ^_^
(Just so you'll know, this is a long post, so look for the 10 _s to get to a different section. Lezee... the little article thingy, the list of features and glitches and ideas, and then just general introduction for those who don't want to read all of that (or those that od and are confused) )
__________
Based on the once popular import "Dragon Ball Z Legends", Jeqo Legends is another of CAJones's text-based fighting games featuring multiple characters, 1 and 2 player modes, and teams of up to 3 characters, complete with unique stats and attacks.
Currently, the prototype version features 20 playable characters from Planet Seva (Not all of which can necessarily be labeled fighters). As more releases reach the public, more will be added!
__________
There's more, but I don't feel like professionalizing it! ^^.
Some of the features:
-the ability to choose any of twenty characters to fill any slot on your or your opponent's team.
-The option to fight the computer or a second human player (which could be confusing once you see the 2p setup).
-The ability to control the size of your team (while my attempt to proof that isn't resolved, the code doesn't support more than 3 characters per team)
- The ability to switch between active characters at will (and you can switch your target if facing a computer team, which you may have to do thanks to an annoying glitch that gives you a decent opportunity to recover energy).
- A confusing movement system that doesn't tell you where you are and will leave you begging for at least an ascii chart (Maybe I'll add it in the next update)
- characters can have items that they can use during a battle (currently disabled)
- some players are shielded against certain types of super attacks, but their shields can be disabled with the right method (I.E, venom defenses can be weakened by stun gas) (disabled, but I can fix that before upload with relative ease)
- An artificial intelligence system that seems to be halfway decent!
- characters can be stunned by attacks or exhaustion
- Despite the lack of "powering up" in Planet Seva, you can still `focus to regain energy!
-A little bug (that I may have already fixed) let me duplicate one of my characters when the other on the team was defeated!
- And as always, you can enter the command "stats" to view the status of things, this time without interrupting the battle!
- The fighting engine is very different from previous games (Oh wait, you've only seen one...), in that instead of being turn-based, all active characters get to act at the same time.
-Not a feature, but something I noticed: it almost looks like certain characters have their own personalities, even though they all use the same AI function. The bigger guys tend to be pretty aggressive, and one in particular acted rather cowardly, although it was a 2-on-1 (and he was with the 2).
... hehehe. I was going to add a customizeable difficulty, but after playing through several battles, I decided that the default is ok.
I wouldn't mind adding a story mode, but the problems are (1) not enough readers visiting to avoid spoilers and (2) the fact that it's meant for all the stories, not just Planet Seva.
__________
The short version!:
Jeqo Legends is a multi-character, text-based, 1-or-2-player fighting game featuring Jeqo characters and many other cool things (with more in the works, heck, already in the characters). It uses the command-prompt input method, gives you the shots with alerts, Etc. Still, I've been playing it since I got it working, and I guess I like the whole knowing exactly what's going on thing, as well as it being my characters.
The controls are single-word commands followed by enter or a click of the ok button. Here're the commands you'll need (look in "help" under options for a list):
approach
retreat
focus
run (a prompt will ask you for "forward" or "backward")
defend
attack
quick (a quick attack)
slow (a slow attack, good for stunned opponents)
long (long-rangelike projectiles and flying attacks)
useItem (disabled)
switch (changes the character on your team that you have command of)
target (switches targets)
partner (if your teams are equal in size, you can use this to get one of your characters to leave their struggle to help you)
stats
quit (actually disabled from inside, but I will fix that soon enough!)And that's about it. And there's a little problem right now with the "back" command in the battle area, but that can be fixed by setting the team sizes to 0. (That doesn't work if you've chosen a battle mode!)
But hey, I haven't even uploaded it yet (expect it in the next update!), so these bugs can be fixed.
Sorry for the length... I'm just ... really pleased! (Hahaha. I doubt you will be as thrilled about it once you get into it. ^^. )
